The railway bridge over the Macquarie - lots of variety in weathering details -all the different shades of rust and grey streaks The pump house has nice character. Makes a good home for the pigeons.

Here we go on a long blog entry.. got to start somewhere.  I am part of a group of modellers who meet on a Friday evening called ModofAu . Each year the group exhibits a layout at the Perth Model Railway Exhibition at the Claremont Showgrounds on the June Long weekend. This year they decided to go On30 .  So I thought I would join them and build one of the modules that would be combined to form a bigger group of modules around 16m long. Each individual module is 1.8m long by 60 cms deep. The track would enter and exit in the middle of each end and be linked together by a short section. The main theme of the collective layout was logging, but we had an open palette to what we designed and included on our individual module...so I thought this would give me a chance to try out some ideas and techniques for the Orphan Valley home layout. AMRA 2013 Model Railway Exhibition Perth Western Australia

  AMRA 2013 Model Railway Show Perth On the June long weekend each year, AMRA holds the Model Railway show at the Claremont Showgrounds. It is a very big show. As mentioned in previous posts, the ModofAu guys were presenting one layout, consisting of 3 parts - Oberon, Tarana and the Hawkesbury Bridge. This NSWGR layout was set around the 60's to 70's time era. Here are some photos capturing the  weekend. Most photos were taken on Peter Higgins layout Oberon and features mostly my rolling stock and locos. Click on the photo's for much larger versions. Peter, who owns Oberon, and Rodney, owner of Hawkesbury getting things organised. The beginnings of Hawkesbury Bridge. 3830 ( a Model Dockyard brass model) heads the first train across the bridge for a test run. A successful crossing. The Artist Residence corner scene. This model is loosely based and inspired by Hans Heyson's residence at Hahndorf in the Adelaide Hills, SA. I just love visiting the place. I've taken a number of photos, but also used NEARMAP to get some approximate dimensions across the front. The measuring tool on NEARMAP is a great resource. I built this model in S scale to help with the forced perspective of the scene. The artist studio to the front of the scene is O scale. The materials used where card stock, Grandt windows, modelling clay, styrene, VR corrugated sheets from Railcar, various brass tubing and wire and acetate for the glazing. I built this models over 4 days early in the mornings before the exhibition. It was at a stage of just pushing through to get the scenes built. CA adhesive and hair dryers really help.
